Connections Made To 'The Kite Runner'

We have many connections that we made while reading this story. Here are some examples:

3 Text to Text:

-The narrators mother passed away while giving birth. We can connect this to a book caled, Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese. Marion and his conjoined twin Shiva's mother passed away while giving birth just like the narrator's mother.

-Baba decided to build an orphanage in the 1960s even though many people doubted him and thought that it would not happen. We can connect this to the book series called Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene. We connected to this book series because in the beginning, many people did not think Nancy as a good detective.

-The narator likes to read poems while his father, Baba, enjoys sports. It is hard to believe that those two are related. We can connect this to a book called, If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Mia, the narrator, loves classical music however, her whole family enjoys rock music. Mia questions if she is adopted.

-Ali was being called names by younger children in the neighborhood because of his characteristics of Hazara Mongoloid features. We can connect this to how Hazaras are being treated with the genocide of the Hazaras in Kunduz in 1999. District chief of Shaajoi commanded people to shoot anyone who identifies as Hazara. This continued for a month.

-When the narrator told Baba about what Mullah Fatiullah Khan taught him in class, Baba was pouring himself a whiskey. We can connect this to Day of Judgement also known as Qiyamat. When the reason is "You will have to, on one day, answer for all of your words and deeds", we connected this to Baba because he was answering Amir's questions about sins.

1 Text to Life:

-In Chapter Three, Baba told Amir to invite Hassan to their picnic. However, Amir did not bring Hassan because he wanted to spend time with his father. I, Anna, can connect this to a time during summer in 2014. I was visiting my father during the summer and whenever he we would go somewhere. My father would invite his girlfriend, secretly I would get mad inside because I would want to spend time with my father.
