Summary, Opinions, & Predictions of Chapters 6-8 in "The Kite Runner"

SUMMARY

In Chapter Six for the story The Kite Runner, the sky became seamless blue meaning that winter has arrived. It is Amir's favorite season because of the annual kite fighting tournament that takes place. Baba mentioned to Amir that Amir might win this year and that encourages him to try harder. The annual kite fighting tournament takes place in Chapter Seven where Amir wins by cutting down the last blue kite. Hassan promises to bring back the blue kite and this leads him into trouble with Assef. Hassan is given a choice to either get beaten or give Assef the blue kite that Amir earned. He proves his loyalty to Amir by not giving Assef the blue kite which led him into getting raped. After the unfortunate event in Chapter Seven, Amir avoids Hassan in Chapter Eight. Because of the guilt Amir had, he became an insomniac. Noticing Hassan trying to rekindle things between them, Amir tells Hassan to stop harassing him. In the summer of 1976, Amir turns 13 years old and Baba throws him a birthday party. Assef and his buddies are invited and Assef gives Amir a biography of Hitler as a birthday present. The Chapter ends with Amir seeing Hassan serving drinks to Assef and Wali.

OPINIONS

As a group, we see Assef as a horrible person. Assef does terrible things to people who do not deserve it like Hassan. We believe that Hassan proved his loyalty and innocence in Chapter Seven. If we were in Hassan's shoes, we would protect our closest friends no matter what the consequences are. We as a group think that Amir's response to the incident was unacceptable. Amir should have stood up to Assef or help Hassan out, not avoid him. If we were in Amir's shoes, we would have tried to stop the incident from occuring even though we were scared.

PREDICTIONS

Based on reading the past chapters of the story The Kite Runner , we as a group can predict that in the next ongoing chapters, Amir and Hassan's friendship will be broken. We can predict this because in Chapter Eight, Amir does his best to avoid Hassan. Amir went as far to asking Baba if they would ever look for new servants. After reading that passage, the group was shocked about how Amir reacted to the unfortunate incidint about Hassan and Assef.
