Elements of Poetry

What does a poem require? What does it have to look like?

I believe that a poem does not need to have anything specific in it. Its theme can be whatever the writer wants it to be and it can look however it want. There are no specific lengths for poems because some poems can be a couple of words while other poems are a few pages long. Some poems can be really messy while other poems are clean.

However, every poem must have a goal in it. It should also have a tone and a flow to follow. It does not have to rhyme, but the words have to flow together. It should also have an literary device which can be a metaphor, simile, or imagery.
