So imagine you have your entire summer planned out, and it is set in stone. You have a boyfriend, a summertime job, you’re happy! But what people don’t see is that it is a mask and Macy Queen has worn this mask since a tragic misfortune. Since then she’s been a shell of her own self. She is the “good girl” “Ms. I am always perfect” “I have the smart and perfect boyfriend”. She’s described as the girl who stays home does homework, never goes out, does what she is told type of girl. This all changes one night, and she meets a boy and engages with helping, Wish-Catering services. Macy’s life is turned upside down, everything she’s planned to perfection is falling out of place, and everything is changing. But the question is, will she change too? Or will she stay “perfect” forever?
This book had allured me in from the first time I read the cover, and I was immediately sucked into the story. There was a part in the book though that really caught my attention. It was a moment between Macy and her sister about a sculpture, it was this, "I don't get it," Caroline said, bemused. "She's the only one with wings. Why is that?" There were so many questions in life. You couldn't ever have all the answers. But I knew this one. "It's so she can fly," I said. And then I started to run. I'd thought it might be like my dreams. But it wasn't. Running came back to me, as easily as anything else that had once been everything to you. The first few steps were hard; it took me a second to catch my breath, but then I found my pace, and everything fell away, until there was nothing but me and what lay ahead, growing closer every second.” To me this reminded me a lot about people everywhere that have faced challenges in their lives. It’s a lot like this text, with how you’ll never have the answer to everything, but sometimes you might have it. It also portrays a part about life by using running as an example, as said in the text, “The first few steps were hard; it took me a second to catch my breath, but then I found pace and everything fell away until there was nothing but me and what lay ahead, growing closer every second.” It’s like with any challenge you face, everything will be hard at first, but then you’ll just have to overcome it, work hard, and then everything will be okay. It is if you work hard to obtain what you want the most, everything else will fall into place right after it, and you’ll start to achieve beyond it.
Overall I loved this book by the author Sarah Dessen. She is truly an amazing author, and has become one of my favorites. I plan to read more of her books in the future as well, and I hope it’s a 10 out of 10 like this book. The Truth About Forever is a book that I recommend people to read, for it is fun, eye opening, and truly magnificent. I also learned one thing about forever; it’s happening.
