Favorite Tenet: Individualism

Transcendentalist Tenets:

- Non-Conformity

- Self- Reliance

- Confidence

- Civil Disobedience

- Nature is sacred

- Individualism

- Simplicity

- Be one with God

Individualism is one of the fundamental ideas of Transcendentalism. It is the idea of thinking for oneself without the rules set by society and free thought and actions based on a person's own values, not the values of others. Transcendental ideas were not well received by popular culture, but remained true to their values and continued to advocate their unpopular ideas.

By remaining independent, an individual is allowed to both retain their identity and expand it. Many people saw individualism as a refusal to act civil around others and a way to cause trouble. Many advocates for individualism were considered troublemakers and criminals. The true purpose of individualism, however, is to not cause trouble, but to promote people to make the choices of peace and harmony on their own, and to be their own and stand alone.

This is our favorite tenet because it is saying you could try and be your own person, instead of being a follower. You can create your own path instead of following another. You will be able to experience things on your own, and you can learn and grow from your own adventures. You can learn to deal with your problems on your own, and most of all you will be able to find yourself, before you begin to try and help others. You will be your own person.

It inspired us to have faith in ourselves and to trust ourselves more. It let us realize that we should listen to what we want and not let other opinions affect the way we feel and what goals we want to accomplish. We should be able to experience anything that we want to experience and to let life take us where we want to go. We should be our own self and not rely on other people.
