Things Learned From Fireside Poetry
Three things that I have learned from fireside poetry are interesting facts about the poets, information about fireside poetry, and how to write a romantic style poem by myself.
For my project, I chose John Greenleaf Whittier as my fireside poet and while researching about him, I learned new facts about him that I did not know before. For example, I learned that Whittier founded the antislavery Liberty Party in 1840. From other peoples' projects, I learned interesting facts about the poet they chose. For example, I learned that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a huge dog lover.
I also learned information about fireside poetry. I learned that they were called the fireside poets because their poems were usually read as a family entertainment around the fireside. They were also called the Schoolroom poems because the poems would be included in textbooks or hanged around the walls at home, school, or in buildings.
The last thing I learned was how to write a romantic style poem. I learned this by working on my project when my partner, Panisa Benchakarn, and I had to write a poem. I learned that the romantic style poems do not have to have a specific rhyme scheme or a specific number of syllabus. I also learned that the poems usually contains a metaphor about nature or it connects to nature.
